Sand Casting

I made this small bronze plaque as an introduction to sand casting in my Stanford Design and Manufacturing class. The sand mold turned out well, and after pouring the bronze, only minimal cleanup and sanding were required before it was ready for display. I then used the waterjet to cut a single steel piece for the stand. With two bends and one TIG weld, the stand holds the plaque upright in the perfectly-sized slot.

Process Waterjet, sand casting, TIG welding

Materials/Finish Bronze, sand blasted steel
