Magnifying Glass

As part of my Stanford Design and Manufacturing class, I used a variety of machining processes to create this desktop magnifying glass. Starting with an aluminum block, I milled three equally spaced holes around the center of the square. These holes serve to secure both the part to the CNC bed and later the frame to the three legs. Each leg required a variety of cuts on the lathe as well as drilling and tapping a hole for the machine screws. Finally, I sanded and polished the acrylic lens and screwed the legs into place. The notch in each leg allows the lens to sit snugly in place.
